BULLET JOURNAL: HOW I’VE ORGANIZED MY PLANNER (AND FEW SUGGESTIONS FOR YOU)

bullet journal tips howto francinesplaceblog

If you’re new to it, bullet journaling has been the favourite way to keep everything organized in the last years.

It became a trend as well, but le me say one thing: writing down things is something that a lot of people have always been doing, no matter how you call it. Honestly, I’ve always had a personalized planner (remember this post?) and I simply can’t stay without. Today we see together why BuJo can be the right choice for each of you 🙂

//

The only thing to remember about BuJo is that it must fit your life and be totally yours. You can find so many cute journal ideas on Pinterest, but the truth is that you have to create yours following your needs and your commitments and interests. So, I’m not here to say how you should plan your journal, but to give you some suggestions if you’re a beginner and don’t know where to start from (I’ve been there too!). I promise, it is going to be fun!

//

1)

FORGET ABOUT OTHERS // DIMENTICATEVI GLI ALTRI

As I said previously, bullet journal is something totally yours, so it doesn’t have to be “perfect” or similar to others you see all around the web. This doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration from them, but remember to adapt it to your lifestyle. For example, there is a symbols guide for BuJo (Google it), but I decided not to use it, cause it’s simply…not mine. To be short: you don’t have to do something just because people do it (or because it looks cute!).

2)

WHICH JOURNAL TO CHOOSE // QUALE DIARIO SCEGLIERE

There is not a rule about the journal to choose, many opt for pointed pages, others for a mix between a planner and a journal (with calendar and sections already created and with white pages). I personally suggest you any journal with these features: A5 format (not too big, not too small), pointed/squared/lined paper, bookmark ribbon, elastic band to close it.

3)

INDEX + NUMBERED PAGES // INDICE + PAGINE NUMERATE

In BuJo index is essential, cause your journal doesn’t follow a “normal” planner scheme: in fact, you’ll also have lists and anything you like in it and it is important that you can always find what you need. So, you should leave about 2 pages at the beginning to create the index. Oh, and add numbers to your pages! It takes some time but it is definitely worth it!

4)

SECTIONS AND LISTS // SEZIONI E LISTE

BuJo is not a normal planner and at this point you’ve probably got it, now see why. In a bought planner you have everything organized weekly or daily, but have no space for personal thoughts, drawings, recipes etc. Or better, no dedicated space. In a bullet journal you create the space and you decide if there will be a section for Netflix series or a books-to-read list. This is the best thing about it: there is no limit to creativity! You can leave pages for sections (for goals, thought, etc.) or lists anytime you want, just remember to sign them in your index!

CALENDAR, FUTURE LOG, MONTHLY LOG, WEEKLY LOG, DAILY LOG

You’ve probably heard about them, but you have no idea about what they mean (except for calendar, of course haha). Well, they are the way you create the actual “planner” in your journal. This means that yes, you have to create also the calendar! Defining your BuJo takes time and patience but this the fun about it! But again, you don’t have to follow a scheme, you define your planner depending on your needs. For example, I am a “visual” person, so I made a whole calendar with colors (one for each important topic), then I created the “future log” that’s the year in short, where I signed the same colors with a short description. In the “monthly log” I opted for the vertical layout (instead of the grid) in one page and goals/to-do/memos in the other. Then I opted for a “weekly log”, cause I just sign my commitmens and I don’t need too much space for each day, but, for example, if you want to check diet/workout/study/etc. progress, “daily log” could be better for you. It’s your choice! Last but not least: I prefer to set each month few days before it starts, someone sets week by week etc. Find what works for you! Sta a voi decidere!
